Clarence D. "Red" Spencer (Columbus) Passes Away

Columbus, GA- Mr. Clarence D. "Red" Spencer of 6059 Harvest Drive, Columbus passed away on Thursday at the Columbus Regional Medical Center. He was 67 years of age.

The son of the late Heron and Ollie M. Berry Spencer, Mr. Spencer was born in Hurtsboro, AL on July 23, 1944. He was a 1963 graduate of the William H. Spencer High School, and attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He played professional football with the San Francisco 49's and following his football career, served as Youth Director at the A. J. McClung YMCA. He was also an advisor at the Columbus Regional Youth Detention Center, and was retired from Houston-Johnson Transportation Company. He was a member of Greater Beulah Baptist Church where he served with the Brotherhood Ministry, and was a Vietnam Veteran of the U. S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Edith Spencer; a beloved daughter, Claretta Y. Spencer; two grandchildren, Taylor J. and Caitlyn N. Jakes; his mother-in-law, Lillian Harmon; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia Harmon and Cheryl Harmon-Moring (Marcus); three nephews, Carlos Moring, Oscar Harmon and Marcus Moring; one niece, Mattrice Bostick; other relatives and friends.

The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Spencer will be Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 12 noon at the Greater Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. C. Medley Hayes, pastor officiating. The interment will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation is Today, June 6, 2012 from 2 til 7:00 pm at the funeral home. The cortege will depart from the residence at 11:15 on June 7, 2012.
